This paper addresses the typical functions and organization
of a new building department for any large cruise ship company,
including the general corporate structure that encompasses the new
building department. The role of the new building office and the
relationship of this office to the shipyards,is explained. The paper
focuses the majority of the information on the role and
responsibilities of the owner's inspection team at the shipyard. The
organization and the functions of the inspection team are provided
along with the arrival schedules of the shipboard personnel. Typical
inspection requirements and inspection workloads are presented. The
paper illuminates the requirements of the site office leading up to and
including delivery.
